As the second largest county in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Prince William County is a community of choice with a strong, diverse economic base, where individuals and families choose to live, work and play and businesses choose to locate.
Prince William County government operates under the County Executive form of government. The County Executive is appointed by the Board of County Supervisors, and acts as the chief administrative officer and oversees the County government on a day-to-day basis. The eight-member Board is elected by the residents of Prince William County and is the policy-making body for the County government. The Prince William County Public School system is a separate entity.
Approximately 3600 employees work in more than 30 County departments. In addition, the Board of County Supervisors appoints citizens to numerous boards, committees and commissions. Some of these groups have the authority to establish policies and determine budget priorities, and others serve in an advisory capacity on specific issues.
